Between John Kaylleway and Ismania his wife claimants, by Adam de Bampton in Ismanias place by the king's writ, and Walter son of Simon de Sauntford, deforciant; as to 2 messuages, 2 mills, 2 ploughlands, 27 acres of meadow, 30 acres of wood, 29s 5 d of rent and a rent of 1 pound of cumin in Mokelisbeare and Chedilton and the advoweson of the church of Chedilton. Plea of covenat was summoned. John acknowledged the tenements and advowson to be the right of Walter. For this Walter granted to John and Ismania the advowson and 2 parts of the tenements and gave them up at court. To have and to hold to John and Ismania and the heirs of their bodies issuing of the chief lords of that fee by the services which belong to the said advowson and 2 parts forever.Moreover Walter undertook for himself and his heirs that the 1/3 part of the aforesaid tenements which Nichola who was wife of Thomas Kayllewey held in dower of the inheritance of the said Walter in the said townships on the day this agreement was made and which after her death ought to revert to Walter and his heirs should then remain in its entirety to John and Ismania and their heirs aforesaid. Edmundus Caleway of Malmesbury Wilts, near Tytherton/Ks, in 1330, and again in 1347, with Roger, acquiring land there for a Margaret Caleway. I had always thought they could have been brothers and sister, and suspected that the lady may have become the Margaret de Courtney, who had a trespass dispute with Edmund and Thomas in 1391. I think that was about Tuderyntone Kayleway. They left for Devon about then.84 M iii John LE CALAWE was born about 1310.
#972. 1360, October 2 - Demise from John the Callow (le Calwe), burgess of Gloucester, to William Brownying, Prior of the Sepulchre of St. Mary near Gloucester, and the Brethren of the same, of a shop in Gloucester in the street called "Southgatestrete," in which Nicholas the Parker dwells, and which the said John holds of the said Prior and Brethren by the yearly service of 12s. The conditions of the demise are that the Prior and Brethren shall, within the space of a year, repair the said shop, and shall retain it until they have defrayed the costs of the rent of the said shop, which is then to revert to the said John at the same rent as he paid before.
