Stoford or Stafford belonged to a younger branch of the Kelloway family, whose descendants took the name of Stafford. This barton now belongs to Thomas Hole, Esq., in right of his mother, who was of this family. (fn. 55)

On the Wednesday next before the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed John the Baptist, in the year of our Lord 1308.
I, John le Calewe, of good memory, make my will in this manner.
First I give and bequeath my soul to God, and my body to be buried in the churchyard of the Blessed Mary at Stapelbryege.

On the 5th Ides of September [ie 9th September] in the 1308th year of our Lord, Before us, the Official of the Lord Archdeacon of Dorset, This will was proved and [its validity] pronounced,And administration of the goods was committed to the within-written executors, an oath having first been taken from them to make a faithful inventory, toadminister the goods faithfully, and to render faithful accounts whenever they might be required to.
In witness whereof our seal of office is appended to this will. Given at Schefton in the year abovesaid.

Lysons also tells us: ' In 1242 William Callewey or Callway held one fee in Mukelebere and Sweteton of the honor of Gloucester (Fees, p780). In 1284 it was held by John Callway from John le Sor (FA, p338).

(21) At Westminster, fifteen days after the day of St. Michael, between Richard de Caleway, plaintiff, by Thomas Jolivet in his place, and Richard de Candevere, tenent of one messuage and one carucate of land in Cherleton. Richard de Caleweye acknow- ledged the tenements to be the right of Richard de Candevere, as by the gift of William de Calewey brother of Richard de Caleway whose heir he (Richard) is, and remitted and quit claimed the same for himself and his heirs to Richard de Candevere and his heirs forever. For this Richard de Candevere gave to Richard de Calewey twenty marcs of silver.

Humfridus married Mabilia FURNEUX, daughter of Matthew FURNEUX, in 1252 in Venn Ottery, Devon. Mabilia was born about 1230 in Venn Ottery.

Mabilia as a second child for Matthew is not proven. It is the most likely link but must be remembered as a tentative suggestion to connect the families. LH
